Artist's Description
The owner of this beautiful tricolor or calico cat told me, that only the female cats have the three colors white, black and orange as pattern in their fur. This cat had two sons, one was white with black patches, the other one was white with orange patches.
In many countries people believe these cats with calico coloring bring good luck. In Germany they are called Glückskatze, which means literally lucky cat. In the United States, these are sometimes referred to as money cats. In Maryland in the United States the state cat is a cat of the calico coloration. Japanese sailors often had a calico ship's cat for protection.
For this portrait painting of this beautiful kitty I first painted an abstract background with watercolor in the shades of the cats fur. Then I applied some clear gesso to create texture for the fur of the animal. The pet is painted with soft pastels. Visual artist. For me inspiration is everywhere. When I go for a walk in the beautiful nature, I see landscape paintings with green meadows under a blue sky, golden fields under a dramatic sky with stormclouds and blue mountains in the sunshine. Old gnarled trees and young shrubs inspire me with fresh green leaves and delicate blossoms in spring and summer, colorful fall foliage in autumn and with abstract bare branches in winter. Summer times at the beach are an endless source of inspiration for seascape paintings - ocean, waves, sand, beach, seagulls, boats sailing.
